You can use the command line to change your WordPress password as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it will require you to generate a hash key of your password using Python or any other hash key generator. This method allows you to change your password by simply following the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log in to MySQL using: \u201cmysql -u root -p.\u201d<\/li><li>Enter your password.<\/li><li>\u201cuse (name of database)\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cshow tables;\u201d (Note: look for table name with \u201cusers\u201d at the end)<\/li><li>\u201cSELECT ID, user_login, user_pass FROM (users-table-you-found);\u201d&nbsp;<\/li><li>\u201cUPDATE (users-table-you-found) SET user_pass=\u201d(hash-key-you-generated)\u201d WHERE ID = (id#-of-account-you-are-resetting-password-for);\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cSELECT ID, user_login, user_pass FROM users-table-you-found);\u201d (Note: to confirm that the new password works)<\/li><li>Press Ctrl-D to exit MySQL.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_phpMyAdmin\"><\/span>Using phpMyAdmin<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes all you have is the phpMyAdmin access of your database. In such a case, if you want to change the password of your website, you can follow the steps mentioned below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log in to phpMyAdmin using the login credentials.<\/li><li>Click on \u201c<em>Databases<\/em>.\u201d<\/li><li>You will see a list of databases. Choose your WordPress database.&nbsp;<\/li><li>All the tables in the database are listed. Click on \u201c<em>Structure<\/em>\u201d if the tables are not listed.<\/li><li>Look for the table with \u201cusers\u201d at the end.<\/li><li>Click on the \u201c<em>Browse<\/em>\u201d icon.<\/li><li>Find your username under <em>user_login.<\/em><\/li><li>Click the edit icon.<\/li><li>You will see the user_id. Click on <em>Edit.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li><li>Delete the password under user_pass and type in your new password. (Note: Remember the password is case-sensitive)<\/li><li>Once enter the new password, click the dropdown menu and select MD5 from the dropdown.<\/li><li>Hit the \u201cGo\u201d button.<\/li><li>Check if the new password works.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_FTP\"><\/span>Using FTP<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An FTP can allow you to reset and change your password with ease. If you can log in through your FTP using the admin user, you can easily change or reset the password. Follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Login and download the active theme\u2019s function.php file.<\/li><li>Open it using any code editor and add the following line in the very beginning after the PHP tag.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>wp_set_password( 'password', 1 );<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>(Note: Add your new password in \u201cpassword\u201d and 1 is the user ID number in wp_users table)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Upload the edited functions.php file.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Once you have logged in, remove the added code. Otherwise, the code will reset your password every time the page loads.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_WP_CLI\"><\/span>Using WP CLI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>WP CLI is a command-line tool that allows you to manage your WordPress installation. Though it requires a basic understanding of how the command line works, it is easy to use. You can follow the steps below to use it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get into your \/WordPress directory and type \u201c$ wp user list.\u201d<\/li><li>Check out all the users and find the one for which you want to change the password.<\/li><li>Update user by typing \u201c$ wp user update 1 &#8211;user_pass=$UP3RstrongP4$w0rd.\u201d<\/li><li>Replace 1 with the user_ id you want to update.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_the_Emergency_Password_Script\"><\/span>Using the Emergency Password Script<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, if none of the above methods work for you, you can use the Emergency Password script. It is a PHP script that requires you to know the administrator\u2019s username\/email. Once the password is updated, you will be notified through email.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To work with the emergency password script, you need to place it in the root of your <a href=\"https:\/\/rarathemes.com\/blog\/important-things-to-do-after-installing-wordpress\/\">WordPress installation<\/a>. Please follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Copy the emergency script from Emergency Password Script and paste it in an emergency.php file.
